The Poster Child of Capitalism: Emi, Jackie

May 6, 2020 Kate Belew with Emi, Jackie (New York City)

Reckoned from one midnight to the next,

a new term for what I used to call sleeping

restlessly, through the door of insomnia I saw

the poster child of capitalism die in her Levis

and god, what guilt she probably felt

privileged with forgetting the voice hoarse, the hands cracked.

Sometimes I pour my cola into a mason jar, for sustainability.
