What Lighthouse, What Water, What Way: Megha Sood

April 22, 2020, Kate Belew With Megha Sood (Jersey City, New Jersey)

Whatever comes next, I ask for

My body a gaping mouth of a blind well

and how far until we reach water?

You scrape and clutch to get a foothold

and I understand what it is to clamor.

Like a foreign language, misheard and misunderstood

We make sounds like the banging of a spoon on a pan.

making our way through this cacophony

slowly like one drags their finger across a map.

Your muted wounds read like Braille in my forgiving hands

Whatever comes next I ask for assistance,

heading towards our shining beacon

What lighthouse, what water, what way

hope pitted in our eyes seeks salvation.
