What A Gift it is to be Kind: Viannah

May 19, 2020 Kate Belew with Viannah (Rockville, Marylan)

When I said the earth was crumbling, what I meant was

my vision shredded against the cliffs of possibilities

like a heartbeat against the ribcage of the world

Which at one point was a tender one

I tossed daisies, roses, and lilacs over the cliffs

and debated following their bodies, but

then turned and showered my heartache with kisses

what a gift it is to be kind, I know now

and there are only one thousand four hundred forty minutes

in each second. And look, when I said the earth was

titled off its axis, I tried to stand on my own two feet but

here we are again. Oh circle, Oh water below,

circle round until you drain from the sky like thunder.
